Scott R. Nielsen is the Office of Emergency Management Coordinator for the Monmouth County Sheriff Office, located in central New Jersey. As OEM Coordinator, he is in charge of Monmouth County’s emergency response, disaster preparedness and the maintenance and implementation of emergency plans. In addition to Scott’s daily responsibilities, he also enhances and develops important programs that deal with planning/preparedness.
Scott has a wealth of knowledge in emergency and disaster response with experience that spans more than 21 years. He is a New Jersey Certified Emergency Manager (NJCEM) and Certified Emergency Medical Technician. Prior to leading the Office of Emergency Management Division, Scott was the 9-1-1 supervisor and CALEA Accreditation Manager for the Monmouth County Sheriffs Office Communications Division, which handles more than one million calls annually. In that role, he was the lead contact during Superstorm Sandy when dealing with 9-1-1 Communications throughout the County. Scott is also a member of NJ-Task Force 1, a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team and has responded to large scale incidents including Hurricane Michael (FL) and the Champlain Tower Collapse in Miami (FL).
Scott’s work motto that he instills throughout the agency is: “I am proud to be able to say every day that we are better prepared today than we were yesterday.”
In what’s left of his spare time, Scott enjoys being with his wife Catherine and their Chocolate Labrador Gabby and vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
